Jacob May feels ‘awesome’ about White Sox shot after Peter Bourjos trade

Jacob May began to receive text messages Monday night alerting him of the news. On Tuesday morning, he read one from his great-uncle, former White Sox outfielder Carlos May.

“He was like, ‘I’m excited for you -- get used to the cold,’” May said. “It’s awesome to kind of be able to carry on that name a little bit.”

Also the grandson of 18-year major-leaguer Lee May, Jacob is expected to be another in his family to reach the big leagues when the Sox open the season Monday at Guaranteed Rate Field.

A long-shot candidate to start in center field at the beginning of spring, May’s stellar Cactus League showing, Charlie Tilson’s injured foot and Tuesday’s trade of veteran outfielder Peter Bourjos sealed his roster spot.
