Michael Jordan’s detour to baseball was bold.

A pro basketball player who hadn’t played baseball in years switched sports in an attempt to make the major leagues. And though at least one team offered him a direct path to the bigs, Jordan opted to attempt to work his way there.

But before he went to spring training with the White Sox in 1994, he needed to practice. And it turns out he had a pretty good tutor.

White Sox legend Bill Melton worked with Jordan on hitting in daily, secret training sessions at Comiskey Park.
