MESA, Ariz. -- White Sox pitcher Lucas Giolito took the mound at Sloan Park on Monday for his first spring start with his new club and he didn’t get a very warm welcome from the Cubs.
As Giolito warmed up, Kyle Schwarber, Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo stood in the dirt taking dry swings.
The Cubs’ concept of hitting Schwarber leadoff in front of the 2016 MVP and their veteran slugger can definitely wreak havoc on an opposing pitcher’s psyche as well as his line score. But starting a game facing those three can be a nice test in spring training.
