Eloy Jimenez is determined to be a 9-innings player — and improve defensively — for the White Sox after another slip-up in left field. ‘I want to be a complete player,’ he says.

Chicago White Sox manager Rick Renteria had words of encouragement for Eloy Jimenez after the left fielder’s misplay led to Christian Yelich’s inside-the-park home run Thursday against the Brewers.

“He just said, ‘Great players have those days,‘ ” Jimenez said before Friday’s night’s game against the Cleveland Indians at Guaranteed Rate Field. “ ‘You are one of them. So, move forward and keep working hard. I know you can do it.’ ”

Jimenez is one of the biggest threats in the Sox lineup. He entered Friday tied for the team lead in home runs (three) and RBIs (eight).
