The lights dimmed at Scottrade Center moments before the Blues and Blackhawks dropped the puck Wednesday night, and the spotlight brightened in the broadcast booth.
There sat a beaming Eddie Olczyk, just 2 1/2 months after announcing to the hockey world that at age 50 he had colon cancer.
“Good evening everyone,” Doc Emrick belted out, opening the show on NBC Sports Network. “With the astounding Eddie Olczyk … going through cancer treatments, this guy said he would be back sooner rather than later. Are we ever glad it's sooner.”
“It's great to be back,” Olczyk said.
