Dylan Cease looks sharp in season debut

The White Sox pitching staff may be struggling, but Dylan Cease provided some hope for the near future in his first minor league start of the year on Tuesday.

Cease took the mound and pitched five scoreless innings in his first start for Triple-A Charlotte. The right-hander struck out five and allowed just three hits and no walks.

All five strikeouts were swinging. Cease's fastball sat consistently in the 96-98 mph range.

He was pulled after just 73 pitches, which was due to the White Sox continuing to limit his workload. Last year, when Cease logged 124 innings, was the first time he went over 100 innings in pro ball and he already has a Tommy John surgery in his past (2014).
