Earlier this week, Derek Holland was miffed. For a while, he had been preparing for his first start of the 2017 season against the Detroit Tigers. Two rainouts later, and it turns out all that prep work was for naught. Next up: Minnesota.
“It definitely takes you by surprise,” Holland said Thursday. “I’m prepared for Detroit, at the same time I got the right stuff to get me prepared for Minnesota. So I’m definitely already on schedule for that.”
Holland stayed on schedule enough for a quality start, spinning six innings against the Twins on Friday. While he allowed three runs, one was particularly unearned and another came when his leadoff walk in the seventh scored against reliever Nate Jones.
