Commissioner Rob Manfred is hopeful MLB can reach a deal with players — and says baseball could lose nearly $4 billion without a season

Commissioner Rob Manfred on Thursday said Major League Baseball is hoping to strike a deal with players to start games in early July and that teams stand to lose nearly $4 billion if the 2020 season is not played.

Players have voiced concerns over safety issues involving a return to clubhouses and playing fields. Manfred said in an interview with CNN that players would be tested “multiple times a week” for the coronavirus, along with daily temperature checks and symptoms analysis.

If a player tests positive, he will be removed from the team, but the rest of the team would not be quarantined, Manfred said.
