Column: Rather than ponder promise, GM Rick Hahn should add another starting pitcher before the trade deadline. The future is now — and the White Sox need to go for it.

The best part about the Chicago White Sox contending for first-place with a month left in their season is we no longer have to pretend making the playoffs is good enough.

That surely was the goal back in spring training and summer camp, in spite of reminders by general manager Rick Hahn that sustained success is really what matters most.

Up until a couple weeks ago, just getting into the expanded, 16-team postseason field would’ve been enough to whet Sox fan’s appetites for 2021. But things change in a heartbeat in a 60-game season during a pandemic.
