A source confirmed Wednesday the St. Louis Cardinals were selected in place of the New York Yankees, one week after Major League Baseball announced it would play a 60-game schedule that limited teams to playing against their own divisions and regional interleague matchups.
The Cubs and Milwaukee Brewers, who play against the Cardinals in the National League Central, were under consideration to oppose the Sox for the game originally set for Aug. 13 in Dyersville, Iowa.
The game is scheduled to be televised by Fox, but health and safety protocols remain in place while construction continues at the ballpark near the site of where the popular movie was filmed.
