The Chicago White Sox will play the Athletics in the playoffs for the first time ever.
The Chicago White Sox and Oakland Athletics are original American League franchises that have existed since 1901. From 1901-1993 they were in the same division together which is part of the reason why they never face each other in the playoffs before now.
