Cactus League report: Yasmani Grandal ready to get back behind the plate for the White Sox — and ex-Cub Tommy La Stella may have a new position for the Giants

Records are meaningless in spring training, except when they’re not. As the Cactus League heads into the stretch run, most teams want to end the exhibition schedule playing winning baseball to prepare for opening day.

Chicago Tribune baseball writers LaMond Pope, Meghan Montemurro and Paul Sullivan will be providing updates from the Cactus League on Monday through Friday throughout spring training.

Yasmani Grandal is scheduled to catch in a Cactus League game for the first time this spring Thursday when the White Sox play the Royals.

“That’s a good sign,” Sox manager Tony La Russa said of Grandal’s planned debut behind the plate.
