Cactus League report: White Sox add some potential speed to their bench — and Nico Hoerner ‘fighting’ to get back on the field for the Cubs

With the Cactus League schedule winding down and teams sending players to minor-league camps, the battles for roster spots are heating up.

Chicago Tribune baseball writers LaMond Pope, Meghan Montemurro and Paul Sullivan will be providing updates from the Cactus League on Monday through Friday throughout spring training.

The White Sox signed veteran outfielder Billy Hamilton to a minor-league deal Tuesday, hoping to add speed to the bench.

Hamilton, 30, has 305 stolen bases in eight seasons with the Cincinnati Reds (2013-18), Kansas City Royals (2019), Atlanta Braves (2019), New York Mets (2020) and Chicago Cubs (2020).
