Well, the Mark Buehrle ceremony was cool. A few minutes after the White Sox (32-41) honored the pitcher who defined consistency, durability, longevity and most memorably, brevity, James Shields & Co. were thumped by a collection of A’s rookies in an ugly 10-2 loss that drew out like a knife. Manager Rick Renteria and Todd Frazier both left early after an impromptu debate with first base umpire Sam Holbrook in the seventh inning. Holbrook ruled Jose Abreu came off the bag on Frazier’s throw, Frazier disagreed and they had a point-counterpoint for a few minutes.
“He just made the wrong call,” Frazier said.
