Geovany Soto hit two homers, a three-run blast and a solo shot, and Matt Davidson launched a three-run clout of his own and a triple as the White Sox won their first game of the season with an 11–2 trouncing of the Tigers at Guaranteed Rate Field.

James Shields earned the win with a strong effort, tossing 5.1 innings while allowing a run and a pair of hits.

Tim Anderson, Jose Abreu and Avi Garcia each collected two hits and an RBI and Jacob May drove in his second run of the season.
