If you’re a fan of baseball and barbecue, you’re in luck. For one night and one night only, the Charlotte Knights will become the “Charlotte Pitmasters” in honor of the rich tradition of barbecue in the city. On July 15th, the Pitmasters will take on the Gwinnett Braves in the “Carolina BBQ Battle Royale Night.” The team will be sporting brand new uniforms to fit the new name and Pitmaster’s merchandise will be sold at BB&T Ballpark.
This may get you thinking: where do minor league teams get their names? No matter if it’s the Great Falls Voyagers or the Kannapolis Intimidators, the team names are far from usual.
