“It’s forever tied for first, as far as memories of teams that get to October,” Tony La Russa, who was in his first stint as Sox manager at the time, said Friday. “The team was relentless.”
The Sox clinched that division crown at home. The 2021 version is working to wrap up the AL Central during their final trip of the regular season. The team’s magic number stood at seven as they began a three-game series Friday against the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Field.
After the three games in Texas, the Sox have three in Detroit and five in Cleveland before returning to Guaranteed Rate Field.
