Carrasco was the lone Rule 5 pick from the White Sox this past December, picked up during the minor-league phase of the draft during which the organization also lost A.J. Puckett to the Atlanta Braves.

Carrasco is a native of Tijuana and most recently played this past winter for the Yaquis de Obregon in the Mexican Pacific Winter League, where he pitched 17 games to a 4.67 ERA and 1.327 WHIP at nearly eight years younger than the average MXPW player.
