CALGARY, Alberta — Mike Sullivan confirmed what everyone already knew on Thursday at the Scotiabank Saddledome, that Tristan Jarry will receive his second career NHL start.
Matt Murray had started all three games of the Penguins' season-long, five-game road trip, and Sullivan wasn't about to let him start two back-to-back sets in the same week.
“Well,” Jim Rutherford told The Athletic earlier this week, “Murray can't start every game.”
The Penguins probably wish he could. When Murray starts this season, the Penguins are 8-2-1. When he doesn't start, the Penguins are 0-3-0.
With the Antti Niemi era having ended with an immediate thud, the Penguins are looking for a backup goaltender.
