There is a method to Max Pacioretty’s madness

Hockey players are known as a superstitious bunch.

They put a left pad on before the right, have a particular time of day when they tape their sticks, eat the same thing before every game and have a whole bunch of other quirky little routines that make them believe they will play better as a result.

Max Pacioretty’s quirk apparently falls in a different category.

After practice Monday, I asked Pacioretty about his scathing review of his own play Thursday in Anaheim, one in which he suggested he was the “worst player on the ice” in a 5-1 loss to the L.
