Earlier today, US Soccer officially announced news that USWNT and Red Stars fans had been eagerly awaiting— Sofia Huerta can now represent the United States.
The Chicago Red Stars forward, who had previously played for Mexico’s U-20 squad, was invited to train with the USWNT earlier this summer but was not eligible to play.
In the press release from US Soccer, Huerta stated: “I want to thank U.S. Soccer for the opportunity and I sincerely appreciate the work that went into getting this change done.”
Huerta also emphasized in the release that she will continue to work towards playing with the team, saying: “Now it’s about working to continue to improve and trying to earn my chance to get on the field.
