Even as a wide-eyed rookie in the fall of 2007, Nick Foligno could read the situation. The Ottawa Senators had reached Stanley Cup Final the previous spring and they were loaded with offensive talent, so making the roster out of training camp was a huge challenge.
And with Jason Spezza, Mike Fisher, Antoine Vermette and Chris Kelly down the middle, there was virtually no chance Foligno could keep his position at center ice.
“It’s kind of tough to crack that lineup,” Foligno smiled, “but I had a really good camp, and they had to put me somewhere.
