It may have been the worst turnover of Seth Jones' NHL career. Certainly, it was the worst gaffe he's suffered since joining the Blue Jackets' midway through the 2015-16 season.
Jones' ill-advised drop pass — right into the path of New York Rangers' forward Kevin Hayes as Hayes came screaming out of the penalty box — led to a breakaway and a 1-0 New York lead at 14:35 of the first period.
It's the kind of mistake that shows up on highlight shows, the kind of miscue that can shake a player's confidence.
But by the end of the night, Jones was celebrating the Blue Jackets' 3-1 win over a Metro rival and his first two-point game of the season, and he was able to crack a smile in the post-game dressing room.
