Blues 3, Islanders 2 (SO)
BROOKLYN – It wasn’t a hat-trick because his third goal Monday against the New York Islanders came in the shootout and won’t count in the record books, but it was enough to earn Vladimir Tarasenko the player of the game award and thus a turn wearing the Jimmy Roberts-style hat afterwards.
Tarasenko scored a rare backhanded goal and added another on the power play to give him three goals in three games, and then he helped wrap up the Blues’ third win of the season with a shootout sizzler.
“It’s hard not to just sit there and be in awe of his shot, to be honest with you,” Blues coach Mike Yeo said.
More beyond the score: Instead of ‘hats off' to Tarasenko, it was ‘hat on' after Monday's performance
