VANCOUVER — The story of the Earthquakes’ season can largely be told by two types of games: victorious nail-biters and overwhelming blowout losses.
It was one of the former that got them through to the MLS Cup playoffs, a 3-2 last-gasp win over Minnesota United FC on Sunday thanks to an added-time goal by Marco Ureña that vaulted the Quakes ahead of FC Dallas and Real Salt Lake into the Western Conference’s sixth seed.
The latter, however, after fighting tooth and nail to get there, is what awaited them in the knockout round.
The Quakes were on the wrong end of a comprehensive 5-0 loss to the Vancouver Whitecaps on Wednesday night at BC Place.
