Matt Murray to play on consecutive nights for second time in NHL career

WINNIPEG, Manitoba — Casey DeSmith will have to wait for his first NHL start. Mike Sullivan isn't messing around.

Less than 24 hours after Sullivan made some unflattering comments in his team's direction, the head coach is sticking with Matt Murray, who will play on consecutive nights for only the second time in his career.

The Penguins lost in Minnesota, 2-1, on Saturday night. One of that game's few bright spots was Murray, who stopped 27 of 29 shots while losing in regulation for the first time since Game 4 of the 2017 Stanley Cup Final.

“We think he's playing pretty well right now,” Sullivan said.
