NEW YORK – In the matter of contract talks between Josh Donaldson and the Blue Jays, the soft, huggy part has begun.
The easy part.
The part where each side earnestly proclaims mutual love and respect.
The part that, in the end, might not matter all that much.
Both Donaldson and the Jays want to keep him in Toronto. Donaldson made that abundantly clear during his exit scrum on Sunday before the Jays' final game of their dreadful season. President Mark Shapiro and general manager Ross Atkins have said repeatedly that they love everything about Donaldson.
