The Michigan redshirt sophomore made a mistake early in the first half of Friday night's exhibition game at Crisler Center. Nothing major, but it was his fault. As a matter of instinct, he looked over to the bench expecting to see a flabbergasted coach and a substitute trotting to the scorer’s table.
Instead, he saw nothing.
On to the next possession.
“When I saw I wasn’t coming out,” Matthews recalled after the game, an easy 82-50 win over Grand Valley State, “I was like, ‘Man, just play.
