Injury has robbed Anton Slepyshev of a golden training camp opportunity

The Edmonton Oilers’ 2017-18 training camp was supposed to be the perfect marriage of preparation and opportunity for Anton Slepyshev. Instead an injury has forced him to the sidelines while his competitors do their best to lock down the job he might otherwise have won.
Slepyshev has always been a fascinating and underrated prospect. Any time a 6-foot-2, 218-pound player presents with NHL-caliber speed and shot, major-league clubs do well to take notice. Despite this, Slepyshev was passed over in his first year of draft eligibility and was only selected late in the third round the following year.
