G5 Drive: At Fresno State, an unconventional approach and unbelievable turnaround

Jeff Tedford is back in college football coaching, and Fresno State is suddenly back to winning.

With last week’s 38-0 win against New Mexico, Fresno State sits at 4-2 overall and 3-0 in Mountain West play. The Bulldogs went 1-11 last season and 3-9 the year before, and athletic director Jim Bartko had narrowed in on Tedford so closely last year that Tedford was officially hired before the 2016 season was complete.

So far, it’s paid off. In December 2015, Tedford stepped down as head coach of the CFL’s BC Lions, looking for a college job. He spent 2016 as a consultant at Washington, before Fresno State came calling.
