Frank Lampard likely out of New York City FC opener

Frank Lampard is unlikely to play in New York City FC's season opener against the Chicago Fire on Sunday due to a calf strain.

Lampard's first MLS season was hampered by injuries and a late start to the season after playing a full Premier League campaign with Manchester City.

The former Chelsea star did not participate in NYCFC's practice on Thursday, but manager Patrick Vieira didn't express concern for his midfielder's condition.

"I think I'm not concerned at all because he will get better," Vieira said on Thursday. "It's just a question of time. Of course I would like to have Frank on the field training with us.
