The Fire splashed a decent amount of Nelson Rodriguez’s famed stack of MLS allocation money on Monday night and acquired central midfield stalwart and former captain of Red Bull New York Dax McCarty for $400k in GAM. The Fire’s official release designated this as $200k paid in 2017, with the other $200k going to the Red Bulls in 2018. (On a sidenote: thank you so very much, MLS, for the newfound transparency in giving us actual numbers for allocation money involved in trades. This is something MLS fandom has been pining for a long time.) The move came as a definite shock to many, since McCarty has been a key contributor in two different Supporters’ Shield winning sides for Red Bull in 2013 and 2015, respectively.
