Final Thoughts: Spartans win a night at the fair, 12-round fight and gut check

EAST LANSING, Mich. – They needed this one.
It wasn’t the prettiest victory the Michigan State Spartans have ever chalked up, but that also might depend on whom you ask. What matters is they needed a victory, and got it Saturday by out-slugging Iowa 17-10.
The Spartan Stadium turf doubled as a canvas for MSU, which viewed the end of the movie “Southpaw” the night before for motivation – compliments of coach Mark Dantonio. It paid off in the fourth quarter, when MSU protected its lead in the final 4:39 by stopping the Hawkeyes cold on two possessions.
