LAS VEGAS — Malcolm Subban’s day in the Las Vegas sun came a little earlier than expected – Sunday afternoon, at the T-Mobile Arena, where he received his third-ever NHL start against, of all teams, the Boston Bruins, who’d selected him 24th overall back in the 2012 entry draft.
Subban joined the Vegas Golden Knights Oct. 5 when they picked him up on waivers, believing he had a higher upside than Calvin Pickard, who came to them in the expansion draft from the Colorado Avalanche.
The Golden Knights saw Subban as a project, someone who they could work with and nurture and maybe eventually step in to replace veteran Marc-Andre Fleury, their starter, who is signed for this year and next.
