Emmanuel Ogbah remembers seeing all the new faces populating his Houston-area middle school in the fall of 2005 and wondering what had brought them into his classrooms mid term.
It was here Ogbah learned first hand of the deadly impact of Hurricane Katrina, which displaced thousands of residents and caused more than $100 billion in damage along the Gulf Coast. The images of the Houston Astrodome being turned into a mass shelter were jarring enough but listening to the personal accounts of hardship brought the tragedy to another level for Ogbah.
“These kids started telling me their stories about how their families had lost everything,” the Browns’ defensive end told The Athletic.
