Watching the highlights, I was a little baffled. How does a team in a fully established neutral zone forecheck late in the third period of a tied game give up a goal on what amounts to a 2-on-1? How’s that even possible?
That was the case in Philadelphia on Saturday night when the Flyers secured a 2-1 win over the Edmonton Oilers. On the play in question, Wayne Simmonds found himself with a point blank opportunity seconds after jumping on the ice. He converted, the Flyers took the lead, and held on through the final two minutes to get the win.
