All-Star game provides opportunity for growth for MLS, Fire

Like most All-Star games, the result of Wednesday night's MLS versus Real Madrid contest will eventually be forgotten. The pageantry and spectacle of the event is often more entertaining than the game itself. This was no different.

With Euro Champions Read Madrid winding down their preseason minus their biggest star, Cristiano Ronaldo, and coach Zinedane Zidane trotting out lineups that featured only a few regulars to start, there really wasn't much to glean from the match in terms of MLS' standing in world football. The circumstances also dictate that MLS detractors won't recognize a good outing regardless. Win, and naysayers will point to the fact that MLS players are in top form in the middle of their season, while Real Madrid are going through the paces of warm-up games.
