This just feels like it's going to end poorly for the Cubs. A staple in the Chicago bullpen in 2023 who battled injuries last year and was ineffective early on this season, Julian Merryweather has latched on with the division rival Milwaukee Brewers via a minor league deal.
The Cubs designated Merryweather for assignment and released him back in May after he got off to a rough start: a 5.79 ERA and 1.821 WHIP in 21 appearances. The veteran latched on with the Mets from there, signing a minor league deal, but never cracked the 26-man roster, pitching just a dozen innings of 4.
