They’re holding a groundbreaking ceremony in Las Vegas... but that doesn’t mean the A’s stadium gets built

It’s been a while since I’ve written about the Athletics and their Las Vegas stadium saga, so with a few hours until the next Cubs game, why not?

Per Chris Biderman of the Sacramento Bee, there’s going to be a groundbreaking ceremony for the stadium in Las Vegas next week:

The team on Tuesday said it would host the ceremony at 8 a.m. June 23 at the site of the former Tropicana Hotel where the new ballpark will be constructed on the Las Vegas Strip.

There’s already been some preparatory work on this site, so this groundbreaking is largely ceremonial, you know, one where dignitaries throw around a few piles of dirt with silver shovels.
