Mere minutes after being selected by the Cubs in the MLB Draft, the UCLA infielder connected on a huge home run to help send his Bruins to the Super Regional.
As UCLA was clinging to a 3-2 lead in the fourth inning of an elimination game against Loyola Marymount in the NCAA postseason, Strumpf was warming up in the on-deck circle as he was drafted by the Cubs. He then delivered a two-out, 2-run shot:
