Cubs left-hander Matthew Boyd needed a resurgent performance in Game 4 of the National League Division Series.
After only going 2/3 of an inning in NLDS Game 1 on Saturday, allowing six runs (two earned) on four hits, Boyd needed to give his team some length on Thursday.
Boyd answered the call, throwing 4 2/3 scoreless innings, striking out six and walking three on Thursday.
Boyd became the fifth Cub to have a scoreless start when facing elimination, joining Jameson Taillon (2025), Jake Arrieta (2015), Lon Warneke (1935) and Hippo Vaughn (1918), according to MLB.
