Matt Szczur looks like he will probably be OK.
Getting the opportunity to not just start but lead off for the stripped-down San Diego Padres, Szczur walloped the first pitch he saw in Chicago since being traded from the Cubs 431 feet out to left in Guaranteed Rate Field.
Four days after being traded from the team that drafted him seven years ago, Szczur is still pretty surprised about how things went down, but is also happy to be already be making his third start with San Diego.
The Cubs designated him for assignment during an unforeseen pitching crunch.
