MESA, Ariz. – The White Sox's visit to Sloan Park on Monday, meant it would be Rick Renteria's first time going against the Cubs as an opposing manager. Of course, the topic of his unusual dismissal so the team could hire Joe Maddon came up again.
Before the game, a 4-4 tie, Maddon pointed out the two had already spoken last spring when Renteria was a White Sox bench coach and have seen each other multiple times since. The Cubs skipper seemed adamant there are no lingering issues between the two, calling Renteria "gregarious."
“No, listen, there’s nothing, he’s fine, we’re fine,” Maddon said.
