Journeyman former Cubs infielder is once again looking for a new home

During the lean years following the Chicago Cubs' World Series win, Sergio Alcantara was one of those young prospects that fans hoped would turn into something big. He had the combination of speed and power that was attractive, and he was certainly given every opportunity to grab a spot on the major league roster.

Unfortunately, things never quite worked out the way everyone hoped for Alcantara. In March of 2022, the Cubs DFA'd the infielder. He began a journey around the league, making stops with the Arizona Diamondbacks organization, then the Padres, then back to the Diamondbacks, then back to the Cubs, then Arizona again, then the Pittsburgh Pirates, then the Diamondbacks once again (Arizona really liked Alcantara apparently), and then, last November, he landed with the San Francisco Giants.
