Jake Arrieta has made it abundantly clear through the media that he and his family loves Chicago and would like to sign a long-term extension with the Cubs.
As much as Arrieta would like to stay with the Cubs, he said Wednesday he will not be giving a hometown discount to sign extension. Arrieta is under club control through the 2017 season and is making $10.7 million this year. Arrieta should be paid around $20 million next year in his last arbitration season before free agency.
Jake Arrieta and Theo Epstein had to address his contract and extension talks after another one of Scott Boras’ clients, Stephen Strasburg, inked a seven-year, $175 million extension with the Nationals when he was set to test free agency after this season.
