If the defining qualities of a Chicago Cubs fan are patience and faith in the face of seemingly endless disappointments, then my uncle Emil Modrowski is the quintessential Cubs fan.

Patience, though, has its limits, especially for someone who turns 101 in November.

“I sure hope they do it this year,” Modrowski said Friday from his home in East Chicago, Indiana.
