The Cubs took their team picture before Monday’s game, while president Theo Epstein and general manager Jed Hoyer stood in the home dugout, purposefully staying out of the way.

As the players filed back into the clubhouse, and most reporters followed, a few of us got Epstein to talk in the dugout. When word spread he was speaking on the record, a stampede of recorder-wielding reporters and cameramen swarmed the cozy space eager to get his thoughts on the Cubs as they enter the home stretch.
