How a local COVID-19 nurse turned the tables on Cubs' Jon Lester

Jon Lester gave up a few more home runs last year than he’s used to allowing. But none of those sluggers turned him around like the nurse from Advocate Lutheran General Hospital did Wednesday night during the Be Chicago telethon to benefit first responders.

The longtime Cubs ace barely had gotten his surprise sports-celebrity “thank you” out before nurse Josh Paturi, who cares for COVID-19 patients with the most severe cases, turned the tables with his own concerns for Lester’s family and issues surrounding whether he’ll be able to play baseball this season.

“We’re doing all right,” said a bespectacled Lester from his home in Georgia before talking about the professional adjustment.
