The Cubs seemed giddy in the pregame clubhouse.
They boisterously greeted Kyle Schwarber upon his return from Triple-A with Willson Contreras receiving a hug before he even put his shirt on.
But the smiles quickly faded once the game against the first-place Milwaukee Brewers got going.
The Cubs found themselves in a familiar spot, down early, as the Brewers scored two in the first and then tacked on a big seven-spot in the third inning as they went on to win 11-2 on Thursday afternoon.
Milwaukee wasn't pleased about this make-up game from the fake-out rainout but it will happily leave town with a 4 1/2 game lead in the NL Central.
