Going Down Swinging (At Pitches In The Dirt)

Suffice it to say, I didn’t watch last night’s game. I’m actually finding myself tuning in less and less as the season wears on, and my optimism for the team’s prospects this year takes hit after hit after hit after hit. The result was much the same as it was the last 4 games: Cubs get a solo homer on offense, the pitching does what should be well enough to win a ballgame, but doesn’t. That’s five games–FIVE–where the team’s only run has come off a solo homer. I’d almost feel better if some of these were shutouts, because then we wouldn’t be getting statistical gems like “No team in MLB history has ever done that crap–probably because most offenses have historically been better than that, even in the dead-ball era!
